New ‘September Sing-Along Sundays’ Series Features Four Popular Titles

TAMPA, Fla. (August 1, 2019) – Look, we get it. You all LOVE your sing-alongs. There’s something hypnotic about following that bouncing ball; something freeing about breaking the taboo of talking during a movie; something ebullient about raising your voice in unanimous – if not always on-key – song with hundreds of fellow film-goers. And you’ve proven it time and time again as a movie-going public, gobbling up tens of thousands of tickets over the years whenever we put lyrics on the big screen.

It all started in February 2002 when Tampa Theatre participated in the national release of a sing-along version of The Sound of Music. With its little bags of props to wave and no-brainer costume options, the novel concept quickly became one of our patrons’ “favorite things” and sold out a two-week run.

In 2014, the Theatre sold so many tickets during a weekend of sing-along Mary Poppins that when we sent the box office report back to Disney, our contact there called to make sure it wasn’t a typo. Twice in the past three years, our Summer Classics supporters have voted sing-along Grease into the top spot for our annual “fans pick the classic” poll. And most recently, six screenings of sing-along The Greatest Showman have sold out – some of them just days after going on sale – prompting the Theatre staff to pledge that we’ll keep showing it until the fervor wanes.

Tampa, we see you. Or, more accurately, we hear you filling up this majestic movie palace with your favorite movie musicals. And we want to reward you with… more sing-alongs! This September, we’ll present September Sing-Along Sundays at 3:00pm every Sunday, Sept. 8-29:

  • 3:00pm Sunday, Sept. 8         Sing-Along THE SOUND OF MUSIC
  • 3:00pm Sunday, Sept. 15       Sing-Along GREASE
  • 3:00pm Sunday, Sept. 22       Sing-Along THE GREATEST SHOWMAN
  • 3:00pm Sunday, Sept. 29       Sing-Along MARY POPPINS

Tickets are $13 and will go on sale at 10:00am Monday, Aug. 5. Tampa Theatre Members save $3 and can participate in a special Member pre-sale for all four films starting TODAY. for details.
