Love of Italian Heritage Brings Old-World Authenticity to Downtown Dining Scene
We would love to share information regarding the opening of downtown Tampa’s newest restaurant, DeVito’s Italian Specialties. We are just a few weeks away from scheduling soft openings and want to keep your discerning taste buds in the loop! Stay tuned for more. See below for details and images of the exterior of DeVito’s Italian Specialties.
(Tampa, FL) – Restaurateur James DeVito is pleased to announce his newest eatery, DeVito’s Italian Specialties™, located at 200 N. Tampa Street in Downtown Tampa.
DeVito, a native New Yorker and downtown Tampa pioneer introduced his first establishment TAPS Restaurant and Bar in 2008. Since then, DeVito developed the TAPS brand to include five additional locations, which were eventually sold, with the exception of the original location on Ashley Drive. “What I enjoy most about owning restaurants is the intimacy and the relationships with the clientele. I want to get back to those roots and one-on-one personal connections with our patrons.”
DeVito’s Italian Specialties™ specializes in traditional authentic Italian cuisine. By day, the menu reflects a focacceria, and a full-service sit-down restaurant that offers a core menu of lunches and grab & go options for downtown’s busy clientele. The evenings feature an upscale, full-service dining experience with a dynamic menu celebrating specialties from Italy.
DeVito states, “The impetus behind DeVito’s Italian Specialties™ is to celebrate old-school, authentic, Italian cuisine. We want to go back to our Italian heritage, bring back traditional recipes, and resurrect recipes that have vanished and/or that are difficult to find in today’s everyday offerings of modern Italian cuisine, where dishes have been over modified. Italian cooking is simple, you source and utilize the absolute best ingredients and let them speak for themselves.”
The menu at DeVito’s Italian Specialties™ features hand-selected premium ingredients imported directly from Italy, made in house and perfectly executed into a broad palate of homemade authentic Italian cuisine created by Chef Alessandro Magnani and Devito.
Chef Magnani, was born in the city of Bari in the region of Puglia in southern Italy. He began cooking at Osteria Gambero (one of Bari’s best seafood restaurants) at the age of 20. Later in his career, Chef Alessandro spent 20 years in the Caribbean Islands, Hawaii and various countries as Executive Chef and General Manager for various premier hotels, resorts, and private restaurants.
By day, the menu at DeVito’s Italian Specialties™ features authentic Roman pizza, which is one of the shining stars on the menu. The carefully crafted dough ferments for 72 hours to allow for the proper rise, thus yielding a lighter, airier, and more digestible crust. Specialty Italian sandwiches on the homemade focaccia feature classics such as mortadella with sautéed broccoli rabe, Prosciutto di Parma and daily batches of mozzarella among others favorites. Panzerotti, gently handmade turnovers filled with a variety of delicious fillings and lightly fried, also grace the menu as well as a variety of salads antipasti selections, fresh manicotti and other old-world specialties offered daily.
During evening hours, the menu reflects Italian favorites such as octopus carpaccio, Bresaola Valtellina, Orecchia de Elefante (pounded bone-in veal chop, topped with arugula and cherry tomato), whole salt-packed Bronzino (sea bass fish), fresh homemade pastas such as Pappardelle Cinghiale (flat noodle pasta with boar ragu), seasonal Brasciole (rolled veal, beef or pork involitini, stuffed with pancetta, garlic, parsley, tomato sauce, and other seasonal flavors), Baccala Fritto (fried codfish filet), followed by desserts such as zabaione (an egg-based marsala custard), baba Napoletano (small yeasted brioche-like cakes soaked in a rum-spiked syrup), traditional ricotta cheesecake, panna cotta & seasonal fruits (Italian custard) and specialty coffees.
At the bar, DeVito’s Italian Specialties™ showcases a curated list of incredibly priced Italian wines as well as popular American wines. Local and Italian beers and classic cocktails like the Americano and the Aperol Spritz are also available.
The decor at DeVito’s Italian Specialties™ is refined and sophisticated, featuring white Carrera and black marble floors, rich leather banquettes and seating, luscious textiles, crystal chandeliers, and signature olive trees that accent the center of the room.
DeVito’s Italian Specialties™ is located at 200 N. Tampa Street, in downtown Tampa, and easily reached on foot, by way of Uber, Lyft, the Downtowner, and HART Trolley. Parking is available at the Hilton Hotel valet, metered street parking, neighboring garages and surface lots.
