Clearwater Beach, FL – Dig into one of Florida’s favorite seafood delicacies at Cooters Restaurant & Bar, as the stone crab season begins! Each year, to celebrate the opening of stone crab season, Cooters Restaurant & Bar on Clearwater Beach hosts a huge four-day party featuring fresh off the boat Florida Stone Crab, King crab, Snow crab, and Dungeness crab— all at wholesale prices. In addition, the festival will have live music on stage by local performers and bands, plus other food and drink specials.Cooters Crab Fest

This year’s Crab Fest will kick off on Thursday, October 24th at 4:00 p.m., and continue through Sunday, October 27th at 8:00 p.m. During Crab Fest, Cooters will serve fresh (never frozen!) Florida stone crab claws. The sweet, succulent meat of the Florida Stone crab claw is considered a delicacy and is delicious unseasoned, served hot with butter, or cold with dipping sauce. Cooters will serve the claws both ways. The claws are semi-cracked in the kitchen just prior to serving, and diners are provided with wooden mallets and crab forks.

Stone crab season in Florida runs from Oct. 15 – May 15, and harvesting is highly regulated by the Florida Department of Agriculture. Stone crabs are captured live in traps and returned live to the sea immediately after the claws are removed.  This enables the crabs to regenerate their missing claw. The stone crab can regenerate its claws three to four times.  After the claws are harvested, they are fully cooked in fresh water, and then “flash chilled” in ice water. The cooking of fresh stone crab claws immediately after harvest prevents the delicate meat from sticking to the inside of the shell, and the ice water plunge locks in the natural sweet flavor, keeping the freshly cooked claw meat rich and succulent.Cooter's Crab Fest

For the ultimate culinary delight, try Cooters’ Crab Feast Platter, which is loaded with an array of all of the varieties of crab.
