The Tampa Downtown Partnership’s 2019 DOWNTOWN TAMPA URBAN EXCELLENCE AWARDS will celebrate businesses, organizations, individuals, events and projects that have made significant contributions toward Downtown Tampa. The coolest thing about these awards is it is designed to showcase anyone who has done or is doing something awesome. 🙂

You can nominate a super helpful street team member, or your favorite lunch cart- anything or anyone you think is enhancing the awesomeness of our rapidly growing downtown community.

2018 Urban Excellence Award Categories and Winners!

The Public Sector Project Award recognizes a public sector project that has made a positive and significant contribution to Downtown; and has demonstrated a strong impact in revitalizing the Downtown area.

2018 Public Sector Award – Julian B Lane Riverfront Park – City of Tampa- If you have not stopped by this park yet or tried a game of pickle ball what are you waiting for? Lol, you can catch us pickle balling it up most Wednesday mornings. Super fun!

The Private Sector Project Award recognizes a private sector project that has made a positive and significant contribution to Downtown; and has demonstrated a commitment to assist in revitalizing the Downtown area.

2018 Private Sector Award – The Wilson Company – CW’s Gin Joint- Creative, and truly outstanding. The selection is like something we experience while in the UK. If you are a craft cocktail enthusiast put this on the must hit list.

The Downtown Collaboration Award recognizes a group partnership that has made a unique, positive contribution to Downtown; and has been responsible for a project or program that has complemented the work of the City of Tampa and the Tampa Downtown Partnership.

2018 Downtown Collaboration Award – TECO Line Streetcar Reimagined: Free Fares & Modernization & Expansion Study- Did you not see FREE? Good times to be had for all and more transportation options to come!

The Landmark Development Project Award recognizes an iconic building that serves as a magnet to attract people to Downtown by improving the physical environment or by enhancing the economic, cultural or social well-being of the area.

2018 Landmark Development Award – Armature Works – Heights Public Market- Arguably the most delicious destination in Tampa. It is up over 16 restaurant concepts and more in the works. Some of our go to’s are Zukku, BnB (BBQ Spot- amazing), Astro Ice Cream, and Cru Cellars (The steak sandwich is ridiculous!) Enjoy 🙂

The Downtown Experience Award recognizes an event, entity or idea that involved people in or exposed them to a positive Downtown experience, thus enhancing their enjoyment while visiting the area.

2018 Downtown Experience Award –  “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” Franklin Street Block Party by Tampa Theatre -We unfortunately did not make it out to this event, BUT from past experiences at anything the Tampa Theatre has hosted it was surely a blast!

The Activating Spaces Award recognizes a person, organization, business, project or initiative that has made a positive and significant contribution to a Downtown space or has created a more attractive pedestrian atmosphere, and commercially vibrant environment through activities, street level store front improvements or design elements.

2018 Activating Spaces Award – Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority Pocket Parks Phase 1

The Marketplace Award recognizes a person, business, project or initiative that has made a positive and significant contribution to the Downtown marketplace or has improved Downtown by contributing a new or unique retail experience.

2018 Marketplace Award – Duckweed Urban Grocery- …Yes Publix is coming, BUT gotta keep it local whenever possible! Duckweed has some very nice local items and a solid cafe. We LOVE both locations!

The Arts & Culture Award recognizes an organization, event or initiative that has had a significant and lasting impact on downtown’s arts and cultural life, stimulates economic growth, encourages tourism and enhances downtown’s cultural image.

2018 Arts & Culture Award –  Tampa Museum of Art “Love is Calling” Exhibit- WOW, WOW, WOW! This was an absolutely incredible exhibit. Big thank you to the Vinik Foundation for making that possible.

The People’s Choice Award is voted on by the public and recognizes a business, organization, individual, event, project or initiative that has made a significant contribution toward creating a unique, vibrant and diverse Downtown, and has made a positive impact on the Downtown community.

2018 People’s Choice Award – Catherine Bennett of Skypoint Condos

The Christine Burdick Downtown Person of The Year Award recognizes an individual that has made a positive and significant contribution to a program or project in Downtown; has added to the Downtown visitor experience and/or that has demonstrated strong leadership in revitalizing the Downtown area.
